On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at approximately 12:34 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a car and a pedestrian in the 5000 block of South Congress Avenue. The unidentified pedestrian was riding a bicycle when the crash occurred. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured, remained on scene, and are cooperating with the investigation.
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 61st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 66 fatalities for the year. On the same date in 2023, there had been 63 fatal crashes resulting in 66 fatalities.
