The Salvation Army Austin recently held its 4th Annual Day of Giving on August 24, 2024, aimed at addressing family homelessness in the community. The event, supported by local media partners, sought to raise awareness and encourage donations to provide shelter and hope for families in need.

Local media outlets such as Audacy, KVUE, iHeart, Waterloo Media, CBS, and FOX played a significant role in spreading the message across Central Texas. The organization expressed gratitude to these partners for their continued support.

Generous sponsors matched every donation made during the event, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution. Key sponsors included JP’s Peace, Love & Happiness Foundation, Katherine Nelson, Randall and Lisa Cate, James and Robin Hall, and TrueSense Marketing.

The event successfully raised $762,246. These funds are essential for developing and supporting critical resources such as safe places to sleep and hot meals for families living in shelters. Donations also facilitate case management, rapid rehousing services, employment assistance, and therapy—all crucial for helping families regain self-sufficiency.

Sunni's story exemplifies the impact of these resources. A single mother of two young children who faced job loss during a winter storm and the passing of her mother turned to The Salvation Army for help. At The Rathgeber Center for Families, Sunni found a safe place to stay and received support that enabled her to secure stable employment and enroll her children in school. Her oldest son notably learned to speak for the first time through therapy provided at the shelter.

The Salvation Army Austin expressed deep gratitude towards everyone who supported the Day of Giving event. They emphasized that ongoing contributions are vital for serving those currently in shelters as well as families on the growing waitlist.
