The Austin ISD celebrated its 1,000th graduate from the Maestro en Casa program since its inception in 2015. Participants in the program attend classes at their children's schools to enhance their English skills, navigate common scenarios, and grasp key vocabularies in various essential areas.

"It is an honor to be here sharing a great achievement with our parents," said Lynn Boswell, Secretary of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees. "Learning a second language is not easy. It takes dedication and a lot of willpower — you have great strength of spirit."

This year's cohort of 175 graduates represents 19 countries and includes individuals with nine different native languages. The significance of the program lies in empowering graduates to better support their children's education and remain engaged within the Austin ISD community and beyond.

"My Maestro en Casa experience has allowed me to cross that language barrier by extending the boundaries of my world and giving me the confidence to actively participate in this great community," said Aurora Gonzalez Cosme, a 2024 graduate from Casey Elementary School.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Maestro en Casa program has engaged 50 schools within the district, offering classes facilitated by Parent Support Specialists or volunteer teachers in collaboration with partners.
