City of Austin City Council Met June 7.

The City Council of Austin, Texas, convened in a special called meeting via Videoconference.

Mayor Adler called the Council Meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.

DISCUSSION

1. Discussion on homelessness related issues, including encampments, and potential American Rescue Plan (ARP) spending.

Presentation was made by Ed Van Eenoo, Chief Financial Officer, Veronica Briseno, Chief Resiliency Officer and Dianna Grey, Chief Homeless Strategy Officer.

Direction was provided to staff to provide more information on the total amount represented by the ten thousand individuals who applied for rental assistance; more details on the per person house costs related to the 3,000 people to be rehoused and the plan for continued funding for services relating to the housing expenses; re-evaluate the density calculation used to determine number of acres needed per person for a homeless encampment strategy; incorporate checkpoints for staff to report back to Council on certain topics.

Mayor Adler adjourned the Council Meeting at 6:00 p.m. without objection.

The minutes were approved on this the 29th day of July 2021 on Council Member Alter’s motion, Council Member Pool’s second on an 11-0 vote.
