An Associate Professor of Finance at the McCombs School of Business has initiated legal proceedings against UT-Austin officials for efforts to restrict his speech.


Local kittens get adopted at PetSmart

New Hope Animal Rescue (NHAR) has seen an increase in cat adoptions thanks to a partnership with PetSmart and Petsmart Charities. NHAR is a local animal rescue organization that works to save both dogs and cats in need. Lemu and Snoopy, two cats housed local PetSmart Cat Adoption Centers, were recently adopted by their own respective families on September 14th.


University of Texas lands at No. 9 on U.S. News and World Report rankings

The University of Texas at Austin (UT) has climbed to No. 9 in the latest undergraduate rankings from U.S. News & World Report. This marks a one-spot improvement from last year and solidifies UT as the top public university in Texas. UT also made significant strides among both public and private universities, jumping six notches to No. 32 overall.


Texas Department of Public Safety promotes Wakeman to major, first woman in organization history to hold position

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the promotion of Texas Ranger Captain Wende O. Wakeman to the rank of major, giving Wakeman the distinction of being the first female Texas Ranger in the state law enforcement agency’s 200-year history, according to a press release.

Texas Education Agency delays release of 2023 A-F Accountability Ratings

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has announced a temporary delay in the release of the 2023 A-F accountability ratings for districts and campuses. Originally scheduled for September 28th, the delay will allow TEA to make adjustments to its growth goals. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath stated that the A-F system is designed to reflect how well schools are meeting high expectations and that these adjustments will ensure it continues to serve as a useful tool for parents and educators.


Governor hosts 2023 Star of Texas Awards

Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott hosted the 2023 Star of Texas Awards in Austin on September 11. The ceremony, held on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, aimed to honor peace officers, first responders, and firefighters. The event was attended by Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht, Texas Supreme Court Justices Jimmy Blacklock and Brett Busby, as well as elected officials and the families of first responders.
