April Pool’s Day, observed annually on April 1, highlights the importance of water safety and drowning prevention. The event emphasizes the significance of being a strong swimmer and swimming in lifeguarded pools. Jesús Aguirre, Austin Parks and Recreation Director, said, "April Pool’s Day is a fun yet meaningful way to remind everyone about the importance of water safety when we're in or around the water." He added that swim lessons and joining a swim team can equip individuals with skills to be safe and confident in the water.
Swim lessons are available for all ages, from infants to adults. Registration is now open for those interested in improving their swimming abilities. Additionally, the recreational Swim Team Program focuses on good sportsmanship, team spirit, and lifelong fitness.
The Aquatic Division is also hiring lifeguards starting at $21.63 per hour. Applicants must be at least 15 years old. More information can be found at LifeguardAustin.com.
