On March 22, 2025, a fatal traffic incident occurred in the 8700 block of Menchaca Rd. in Austin. At approximately 8:12 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved in the accident has been identified as Anissa Neicole Zapata, a 21-year-old Hispanic female. She was arrested on charges of Accident Involving Death and Driving While Intoxicated.
This incident marks Austin's 20th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 24 fatalities so far in 2025. On the same date last year, there were 19 fatal crashes with an equal number of deaths.
