The Mayor’s Health and Well-Being Council (MHWC), in collaboration with Austin Public Health, has announced the opening of applications for its 2025 recognition programs. These initiatives aim to honor schools and faith-based communities in Austin for their efforts in promoting health and well-being.
The MHWC's Exemplary School Certification program is designed to acknowledge school campuses that implement best practices to enhance health and well-being among students. Schools achieving this status will be recognized for their work in areas such as nutrition, physical activity, and fostering a healthy school environment.
Once certified as Exemplary Schools, these institutions can compete for the Mayor’s Healthiest Schools Awards. The deadline for submitting applications for both the Exemplary Schools Certification and the Healthiest Schools Awards is May 23, 2025.
This year, MHWC will also recognize Faith Community partners that have achieved specific health and wellness goals. Faith communities interested in participating will receive technical assistance from Austin Public Health to establish and meet these objectives.
Reflecting on its legacy, the council marked its 20th anniversary in 2024. Over two decades, MHWC's initiatives have positively impacted numerous individuals and families by promoting healthier living environments within the community. As they celebrate this milestone, they reaffirm their commitment to building a healthier Austin.
