Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is preparing for an influx of travelers as the Spring Festival Season and Spring Break approach in Central Texas. The airport anticipates a significant increase in passenger numbers from March 6 through the end of the month, with several days expected to see over 30,000 departing passengers. The busiest travel days are projected to be March 9, March 10, March 30, and March 31.

AUS officials have collaborated with other City of Austin leaders to discuss travel and event expectations. More details on city-wide preparations can be found in the City of Austin’s press release and a recent press event held on March 3.

Travelers are advised to arrive early: 2.5 hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Those checking bags or returning rental cars should allow extra time.

Security screening at AUS includes three checkpoints leading to all gates. TSA PreCheck and Clear services are available at Checkpoint 2 West, with Checkpoint 2 East serving as an overflow option. "TSA checkpoints open daily at 3 a.m."

Passengers should ensure liquids or aerosols over 3.4 oz. are not in carry-ons, as these items are prohibited at security checkpoints along with firearms and weapons. Last year, TSA intercepted 126 firearms at AUS due to travelers mistakenly bringing them from gun ranges.

Parking options include on-site reservations via ABIAParking.com or by calling (512) 530-3300. Shuttle services run every 15-20 minutes from parking lots to the terminal.

For accessibility needs, AUS is piloting a new smartphone application wayfinding tool called GoodMaps for passengers with hearing or vision impairments. Wheelchair assistance can be coordinated through airlines, while TSA offers its TSA Cares program for additional help during security screenings.

To save time, travelers can use mobile boarding passes or self-service kiosks inside the terminal for check-in.

Allegiant and Frontier passengers must use the South Terminal located at 10000 Logistics Lane, with shuttle service available but on-site parking recommended.

Inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal, travelers can enjoy local Austin restaurants, art installations, live music stages, and more using the AUS interactive map for directions.

Ongoing construction activities may be noticeable within the terminal as part of airport improvement projects under Journey With AUS. Updates on these projects can be found on AustinTexas.gov/AUSConstructionUpdates or by following AUS on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

AUS’s Department of Aviation staff will be present in the terminal during busy days to assist travelers. For further assistance or updates, passengers can contact the Airport Operations Center at (512) 530-2242 or visit FlyAustin.com.
