CapMetro has inaugurated its 12th Pickup Zone in Northeast Austin, enhancing public transportation access in the area. This initiative is part of Project Connect and was developed with the support of Travis County and local community leaders.

"This is a great day for Northeast Travis County," said Jeff Travillion, Travis County Commissioner and CapMetro Board Chair. "The ability to access public transit is critical for a thriving community, and I am proud to celebrate the launch of Decker Pickup to continue to support residents in their ability to seamlessly travel within the community."

Pickup Decker provides door-to-door on-demand transit for $1.25, linking customers with CapMetro's broader transit network and key local destinations such as the Travis County Expo Center, University Hills Austin Public Library, Community First! Village, and H-E-B. The service also connects to future routes like the Rapid 837 Expo Center line and existing bus routes 20, 233, 237, and 339.

"As part of our Transit Development Plan, Travis County is dedicated to providing ongoing enhancements to improve access, efficiency, and effectiveness to our transportation services," said Andy Brown, Travis County Judge. "Expanding CapMetro’s Pickup program to this underserved area is an important milestone, and we’re excited to be able to offer this service to Northeast Travis County."

Launched on January 13 with the Spring Service Change of 2025, Pickup Decker has already achieved strong ridership with over 150 rides since its inception. It marks one of the most successful zone launches for CapMetro.

This latest addition is the fourth zone introduced under Project Connect—a voter-endorsed plan aimed at enhancing Central Texas' public transportation infrastructure—and it is also the second zone implemented in collaboration with Travis County. The county contributed a quarter of the funding required for this new service.

"Our Pickup program represents CapMetro’s commitment to innovative, accessible transportation," stated Dottie Watkins, President & CEO of CapMetro. "This neighborhood microtransit service will connect residents to our broader transit network, providing critical connections to build a more equitable transit system."

In 2024 alone, CapMetro's Pickup service reached significant milestones including launching Dove Springs zone and recording its one-millionth ride. The service continues robust performance with over 4,000 rides monthly last year.

Customers can book rides through the Pickup App available on Apple and Google platforms or by phone at 512-369-6200 if app use isn't possible. Each ride costs $1.25—equivalent to standard bus fare—with children riding free.
