Bryker Woods Elementary School has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first elementary school in Austin Independent School District (ISD) to be recognized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program Campus. This designation highlights the school's commitment to fostering curious, creative, and thoughtful learners.

The IB program is designed to encourage students to explore big ideas, ask questions, and connect their learning to the world around them while developing essential skills for the future. Bryker Woods Principal Alicia Hill emphasized the importance of this approach, stating, "We live in a very challenging time and this program helps our students be aware of the world around them, open-minded to differences and just embracing the idea that we have to work together to survive and thrive. We have the power to make the world a better place."

The journey towards becoming an IB-recognized campus involved extensive discussions among teachers, staff, and the Bryker Woods community about applying for IB recognition. After achieving candidate status, the process required hours of planning, training, collaboration, and hard work to earn authorization. As part of this rigorous process, IB representatives visited every classroom to ensure full commitment to the program.

Bryker Woods joins Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School as part of Austin ISD's network of IB schools. The recognition marks a significant step forward for elementary education within the district.

Looking ahead, Bryker Woods Elementary School will need to reapply in five years and meet all necessary requirements to maintain its status as an IB campus.
