Austin Independent School District (ISD) has reported progress in implementing the actions outlined in the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Agreed Order. As of now, the district has completed two out of four priorities and 74 out of 99 actions specified in the order.

This development marks a significant step forward for Austin ISD in improving systems to enhance the experience for students receiving Special Education services. However, there is still work ahead as the Special Education Department transitions to a new data management system.

The new system aims to provide a comprehensive view of the special education journey and improve service delivery to families. It will also help meet state and federal data reporting requirements under the TEA Order. An extension for data reporting has been granted until September 2025, allowing the district to focus on this transition.

In related news, Dr. Dru McGovern-Robinnett, Assistant Superintendent of Special Education, announced her retirement next month. "We are immensely grateful for her tireless and compassionate leadership that has gotten us to this point," said an official statement from Austin ISD. The district plans to recruit a new leader by summer.
