Thousands of students in the Austin Independent School District are benefiting from the "Coats for Kids" program this winter. The initiative, led by The Junior League of Austin and its partners, has been providing essential winter wear to local students for over a decade.
The program aims to support families by offering free coats to children during the cold season. Guatemala Cruz, a parent and volunteer at Jaime Padrón Elementary School, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “It’s very important because it helps many children who need a coat in this cold weather,” she said. “They are very happy with what they are given.”
This year alone, more than 7,800 coats were distributed across 104 schools within Austin ISD. Since its establishment 38 years ago, Coats for Kids has delivered over one million coats to students in need.
The Junior League of Austin continues to receive donations throughout the year in various forms, ensuring sustained support for this significant community effort.
