Austin ISD seeks community input on proposed $92 million budget cuts

The Austin Independent School District (ISD) is working on a plan to cut $92 million over the next three years while aiming to maintain the student experience. Superintendent Matias Segura presented a proposal to the board of trustees on November 22, which includes options for balancing the budget.

"Previously discussed such as librarians, counselors, nurses and planning periods are off the table — at least for the upcoming school year," Segura noted. The district hopes that two upcoming legislative sessions may provide additional funds, potentially reducing necessary cuts.

Community members are encouraged to participate in discussions about the proposed budget plan. Two virtual community conversations have been scheduled: one from 6–7 p.m. on Monday, December 9, and another from 11 a.m.–noon on Saturday, December 14. Both meetings will be available in English and Spanish.
