Traffic congestion in Austin is a persistent issue, and with the ongoing construction on Interstate 35, the proposed expansion of MoPac South could further complicate matters. This development may have significant implications for Austin High School, particularly concerning traffic flow and student transportation.

The planned expansion involves extending the toll lanes from Cesar Chavez Street to Slaughter Lane. The aim is to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce travel times along the MoPac corridor, which sees over 200,000 vehicles daily.

Residents are encouraged to voice their concerns and ask questions about how this project might affect commutes for both staff and students. A town hall meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9th at the Austin High School library located at 1715 W. Cesar Chavez.

Feedback can also be submitted directly to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority during their public comment period until Sunday, December 29th. For further information, individuals can contact Jeremy Striffler, Director of Real Estate for Austin ISD.
