The former Rosedale School site has been declared surplus by the district, presenting an opportunity to either sell or lease the property. The school, located at 2117 West 49th Street, is no longer in use and does not meet Austin ISD's future needs criteria.

The facility was vacated in February 2022 after a modernized replacement was built at 7505 Silvercrest Drive for Rosedale students. Since February 2024, the Travis County Sheriff's Office has used the location temporarily as a training site for law enforcement officials.

On October 24, the board passed a resolution declaring the site surplus. The district is considering various options to address its budget deficit, with property monetization being a significant potential revenue source. Any decisions regarding sale or lease of the property will require approval from the Board of Trustees.

"Rosedale School identified as surplus after district evaluation," stated district officials. "The district now has the opportunity to monetize the former Rosedale School site after the property was declared surplus, opening the option to sell or lease the land."

"Since Feb. 2024, the location has been temporarily occupied by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office as a training site for law enforcement officials."

"The board adopted a resolution Oct. 24 declaring the site surplus."

"The district is exploring all opportunities to reduce budget deficit, including potential revenue-boosting proposals."
