Tomar and the FCs, a soul band from Austin, Texas, performed at Saxon’s stage. The band is led by Tomar Williams, who began his career singing on the Chitlin Circuit with his family in the late 1980s. After years as a side musician and working in hip-hop production, Williams returned to fronting a band in 2015 when he met the instrumental group known as the FCs.
The collaboration resulted in their first EP, "Day by Day," which was well-received. The Austin American Statesman praised it saying, “Williams shows his own soul chops with searing vocals that drip with blood, sweat and tears.”
Their first full album, "Heart Attack," came out in late 2016. It was produced alongside Grammy-winning artist/engineer Adrian Quesada. KUTX described it as “Pure soul, pure energy…Heart Attack, the single from the band’s latest album of the same name, is an electric three-minute ride of some of the purest blues/soul we’ve heard lately.”
Over time, Tomar and the FCs have built a reputation across Texas and beyond through national tours. They were chosen by NPR Music for the Tiny Desk Concert Series and have performed at events like Austin City Limits Music Festival and SXSW. In 2022, they appeared at Bonnaroo.
In 2020, they released their second full-length record "Rise Above" under Splice Records. The Austin Chronicle commented on Williams’ career stating that “Williams today notches four full decades of performance and finally hits his stride north of 50.”
