Austin voters have approved Proposition A, bringing $41 million to Austin Independent School District (AISD) educators and classrooms. This financial support allows the district to maintain previous pay raises while offering new raises to 85% of its teachers and staff.

Proposition A will allocate funds for teacher and staff raises, as well as additional support positions within campuses. Specifically, $17.8 million will be directed towards a compensation plan that includes market adjustments for most teachers and staff, with the largest increases benefiting the most experienced educators. An additional $20 million will address current costs and help reduce the budget deficit. Approximately $3.2 million will be spent on direct campus support, including instructional coaches, content interventionists, and mental health services.

The pay increases are retroactive to the start of the 2024–25 school year and will be included in December's payroll.

Expressing gratitude for community support, Austin ISD Board President Arati Singh stated: “I’m so grateful for the community’s support of Proposition A, which will help the district retain the educators and staff whose talents underpin everything we do at Austin ISD.” Superintendent Matias Segura added: “Austin loves our neighborhood schools, and we stand by our values. Our community has once again stepped up for our students.”

Looking ahead, AISD plans to continue efforts to reduce its budget deficit by identifying $92 million in cost reductions over three years. The district leaders also intend to monitor closely the Texas Legislative Session starting in January 2025, where lawmakers are expected to revisit funding issues for Texas public schools.
