The 17th annual Travis County History Day is set to take place on November 19, 2024. This event, organized by the Travis County Archives, will focus on the courthouses of Travis County. The history of these buildings spans from the first official courthouse built in 1855 to the Heman Marion Sweatt Courthouse, known for a significant civil rights case, and extends to the recently opened Civil and Family Court Facility.

The event aims to reflect on the role these courthouses have played as centers of local government and symbols of civic pride. They have been pivotal in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for many citizens.

An opening reception for an exhibit will be held on November 19 from 12:00-1:00 pm at the Hall of Government located at 700 Lavaca Street in Austin, Texas. During this time, a proclamation will be read at Commissioners Court, and refreshments will be available. The exhibit will remain open until May 2025.

Those interested can RSVP online through Facebook.
