A new mobile library named Alvan the Book Van has been introduced to the Austin Independent School District (ISD). The initiative aims to provide summer reading materials to students in Title I schools and areas of east Austin with limited access to books. This project is made possible by a generous donation.

Linda Noy, President of the American Library Association (ALA), expressed support for this initiative. "We believe that every child deserves access to books, and this initiative is a step toward closing the reading gap that disproportionately affects students from different income levels," she stated.

The mobile library will focus on reaching out to communities where children have fewer opportunities to engage with diverse reading options during the summer months. By doing so, it seeks to address disparities in educational resources available across various economic backgrounds.
