Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is gearing up for a busy October with the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival. The event, which has drawn hundreds of thousands to the city in previous years, will likely result in high passenger traffic at the airport.

High passenger days are anticipated on several dates: October 4, 6, 7, and 8 for the first weekend of ACL; and October 11, 13, 14, and 15 for the second weekend. On these days, more than 30,000 passengers are expected to depart from AUS.

Passengers using general TSA screening should arrive at least two and a half hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Those needing to check luggage or complete other pre-flight tasks should allow extra time.

Airline ticket counters are expected to be busy. "Highways near the airport are expected to be busy during the days surrounding the festival," so planning routes accordingly is advised.

The airport's three security checkpoints open at 3:00 a.m., with TSA PreCheck and Clear available at Checkpoint 2 West. TSA has noted an increase in firearms being brought to checkpoints this year. Travelers can consult TSA guidelines on proper firearm transport and visit TSA.gov for packing guidance.

Parking reservations can be made via ABIAParking.com for spaces in various lots. Shuttle services run every 15-20 minutes to terminals.

For those arriving at AUS, trams connect terminals with rideshare pick-up areas and rental facilities. ADA-compliant shuttles serve Economy Lots. Passengers needing wheelchair assistance should coordinate with airlines beforehand.

TSA offers "TSA Cares" for travelers requiring additional help during security screenings; contact them 72 hours prior to travel. Mobility assistance options include pickups by rideshares or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles at designated zones.

Departing passengers without checked luggage have options such as mobile boarding passes or self-service kiosks to expedite their journey through security checkpoints.

Inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal, visitors can enjoy local dining options, art installations, live music stages, and more using an interactive map available online.

Allegiant and Frontier Airlines operate from The South Terminal located separately from Barbara Jordan Terminal. Passengers flying these airlines should park onsite at The South Terminal for convenience.

Ongoing construction activities may affect terminal experiences; updates are available on AustinTexas.gov/AUSConstructionUpdates. For assistance during their visit, passengers can contact Airport Operations Center or speak with staff members on-site.
