The Pease Park Conservancy (PPC) seeks to resolve the longstanding public safety and connectivity issues resulting from two major landslides that occurred in 2018 and 2019 along the Shoal Creek Trail.

According to a September 20 press release attributed to the conservancy, the debris and trail closure remain. The PPC, the Shoal Creek Conservancy (SCC), and the Pemberton Heights Neighborhood Association agree that it is still very important to work with the city of Austin to provide a safe, accessible restoration of this area of the park and the trail.

The non-profit organization said in the release that while there are efforts to improve the eastern urban trail along Lamar, they do not address any restoration on the west side.

The PPC and SCC have written Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and the Austin City Council about the issue in the spring of 2023. According to PPC, no action has been taken for the western trail as of this month.

Community members are asked to contact the mayor and their respective city council members to stress the importance of access on the west side of Shoal Creek.

Residents who live in the vicinity of Pease Park are encouraged to form neighborhood groups to contact the mayor’s office or their city council representative.
