People Organized in Defense of Earth and her Resources (PODER) and the Austin Neighborhoods Council (ANC) will jointly host a voter registration event at the Mariposa Complex in Austin, located at 4926 E. Cesar Chavez, on September 17 from noon to 7 p.m.

According to a September 9 press release issued by ANC, the event coincides with Voter Registration Day.

Both non-profit organizations are inviting eligible voters to drive through or walk up to register to vote in English or Spanish. Individuals can also check the status of their voter registration. If it appears they have been purged, they can be re-registered.

PODER Executive Director Susana Almanza said in the release that her organization is committed to keeping the community empowered by their vote.

ANC President Ana Aguirre added, "Together, we care and stand for each other!," according to the release.

To register to vote in Texas, an individual must be at least 17 years and ten months old or older, possess American citizenship, be a resident of the county in which the application for registration is made, and not be convicted of a felony.
