Austin police seek public help in aggravated assault case

The Austin Police Department (APD) Aggravated Assault Unit is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident occurred on Monday, September 2, 2024, at approximately 1:18 a.m., at the intersection of East 7th and Red River streets.

APD officers were responding to an unrelated incident when they heard gunshots. Upon arrival at the scene, they found a victim who was bleeding. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the investigation, three Black males were operating a newer model gray or silver Chevrolet Malibu. The front right passenger discharged multiple gunshots at the victim's vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact APD's Aggravated Assault unit at 512-974-5245. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
