The Austin Police Department (APD) has announced a DWI No Refusal Initiative that will be enforced during the upcoming Labor Day Weekend. The operation commenced on Thursday, August 29, and will continue through Monday, September 2, 2024.

This initiative aims to enforce DWI laws and ensure public safety by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions. Officers will apply for blood search warrants for suspects who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law. The focus of this initiative includes highways, high-speed roadways, and waterways.

The APD, in collaboration with the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department, remains committed to preventing fatalities on Austin's streets, highways, and waterways. The department emphasizes its dedication to making Austin's roadways and waterways safe for both residents and visitors through education and enforcement.
