The Austin Police Department (APD) Lake Patrol Unit will enforce a city ordinance prohibiting the use and operation of personal watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards, and similar devices on Lake Austin. This ban will be in effect from sunset on Friday, August 30, 2024, until sunrise on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Non-motorized devices such as kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are still permitted.

The annual ban aims to ensure the safety of people using the lake and parks over the Labor Day holiday. The restriction applies solely to Lake Austin.

Police will patrol Lake Austin during this period and urge users to adhere to the Texas Water Safety Act and City of Austin boating laws. Boaters are encouraged to practice safe boating and report any reckless operations or emergencies by calling 9-1-1.

Both the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and the APD want the public to enjoy the parks and lakes while ensuring a safe holiday.
