Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on West William Cannon Drive

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at approximately 12:52 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 1000 block of West William Cannon Drive. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The vehicle did not stop and left the scene.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 46th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 49 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there were 55 fatal crashes resulting in 58 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
