As Park and Recreation Month draws to a close, the Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is encouraging the Austin community to reflect on the significance of the city's parks, trails, and public spaces. The City of Austin boasts 355 parks, over 20,000 acres of green space, 269 miles of trails, as well as numerous public centers and cultural spaces.

This year's theme for Park and Recreation Month – "Where You Belong" – emphasizes how parks and recreation areas nationwide create welcoming environments that offer essential services for people of all ages and abilities. These spaces provide safe and accessible areas that foster meaningful interactions and strengthen community bonds.

The NRPA encourages everyone to celebrate these places that make communities feel like home. For more information on Park and Recreation Month, visit NRPA.org/July.
