On Wednesday, August 21st, The Salvation Army will hold its 4th annual Day of Giving. The event aims to reach a goal of $1,000,000 in donations to support families experiencing homelessness in the community.
The Day of Giving seeks to raise awareness about family homelessness and unite Central Texans in supporting programs and services that help families regain self-sufficiency. Donations during this event will provide shelter, basic necessities, and resources for families in need.
Sunni and her two children are among those who have benefited from The Salvation Army Austin’s shelter and programs. After losing her job and primary supporter, Sunni turned to The Rathgeber Center for Families. At the center, her children received day care and speech therapy services while Sunni was provided with a therapist, a case manager, and career resources. With this support, Sunni secured employment and now focuses on maintaining stability for her family. “I love it here,” Sunni says. “They really do help you get back on your feet.”
Many families like Sunni's are in need of services that can change their future. The campaign theme "Every Family Matters: Give Shelter and Hope" encourages participation in the Day of Giving on August 21st to help end family homelessness by reaching the $1,000,000 goal.
