Austin Water reports that ongoing repairs to a leaking water main servicing Southwest Austin are taking longer than anticipated. Consequently, the utility has continued bottled water distribution and calls for water conservation for area customers for a second day.

Workers have encountered difficulties with connecting and sealing the round section of new pipe to the existing 48-inch main, which has naturally changed shape over time. Customizing the fitting is essential for a permanent, long-lasting repair.

Austin Water continues to ask affected customers in Southwest Austin to limit water use to essential needs only and hold off on activities such as washing clothes, cars, dishes, and using irrigation systems until they are notified that repairs are complete. The continued conservation efforts of customers have so far helped maintain adequate reservoir water levels and stable system pressure to service the area.

Bottled water distribution at Bowie High School, 4103 W. Slaughter Lane, has resumed from 9 a.m. this morning through 7 p.m. this evening for customers near the area of the repair.

If customers experience any water service issues, they should call Austin Water’s Customer Service Contact Center at (512) 972-1000 and select Option 1 to report the concern.

Austin Water will provide additional updates once repairs are complete and normal water use can resume.
