The Austin Police Department conducted a DWI No Refusal Initiative over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which spanned from Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27, 2024. The initiative aimed to curb impaired driving by ensuring that those suspected of driving while intoxicated could not refuse sobriety tests.
During this period, a total of 31 DWI arrests were made. Of these arrests, there were:
- 10 blood search warrants issued
- 16 consent breath samples collected
- 5 consent blood samples obtained
Among those arrested, enhanced DWI charges were noted in several cases:
- Five individuals had consent breath samples with results over .15 BAC.
- Two individuals faced Class A Misdemeanor DWI charges due to prior convictions.
The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department remain committed to preventing fatalities on Austin's streets, highways, and waterways. Their efforts focus on both education and enforcement to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
