After a tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service for Austin ISD until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, all after school activities have been moved indoors as a precaution. In a message to families and staff, the district emphasized the importance of safety protocols in place during such weather events.

"We are under a tornado watch from the National Weather Service until 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. This means that a tornado is possible but not imminent, so we are prepared and monitoring the forecast," stated the district communication.

The district further informed, "All after school activities will be moved indoors as needed. Look out for specific information from your campus. Please be advised that our campuses have protocols in place to keep students and staff safe during weather events—see 'Shelter' protocols."

Acknowledging the potential risks, the message assured, "While only light rain is anticipated during dismissal, our bus drivers will take extra precautions as they navigate their routes." The district's bus drivers are trained to prioritize student safety and will adjust routes if unsafe conditions are encountered.

In the event of any changes, the district reiterated its commitment to providing updates based on ongoing weather conditions. Families were encouraged to stay informed through official channels for the most reliable information regarding the weather situation.

As the district takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff, the community is reminded to remain vigilant and prepared during this period of heightened weather alert.
