Offers are racking up for 6-foot-2-inch, 206-pound tight end Jaden Greathouse, a junior at Westlake High School in Austin, and that includes a hard recruiting offer from the University of Oklahoma.
So far, though, Greathouse seems to be keeping his options open.
"Blessed to have received an offer from the University of Miami," Greathouse said in a Twitter post on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
He didn't mention blessings in June when he tweeted about his visits to OU and the University of Texas, where the Longhorns actually got Greathouse into a No. 9 jersey. All Greathouse said in his June Twitter posts was that he "had a great time" during those visits.
University of Oklahoma Head Coach Shane Beamer tried – with no reported success so far – to recruit Greathouse, according to Greathouse's profile on 247Sports.
Greathouse also has received offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Miami, Penn State and, of course, Texas but, so far, he is "cool" on all of them and has announced no commits, according to 247Sports. Greathouse hasn't made any made other reported visits – yet – but he has had a total of six offers, according to 247Sports.
It's no wonder Greathouse is garnering so much attention, he knows how to get his hands on the ball. He caught three receptions during Westlake High School's sound 34-14 defeat over the Euless Trinity High Trojans on Sept. 3, according to the Austin American-Statesman's coverage of that game. The Chaparrals were at 27 points by halftime and the game had folks predicting that Westlake just might be headed to their third consecutive state title.
That's the team that produced Greathouse and he isn't in his senior year yet. Greathouse is expected to graduate in 2023.
Last year, Greathouse was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American and helped Westlake to its Class 6A-Division I state title. The year prior, Greathouse was named Texas District 25-6A Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year – when he was only a freshman – and that year helped Westlake to its spot in the Texas 6A D-II state championship.
In August, Midlands Region Recruiting Analyst Gabe Brooks said Greathouse, a four-star recruit, possesses "encouraging hands-catching ability [and] knows how to find open space."
Greathouse's closest comparison in the pros is Washington Football Team's Hunter Bryant.
"Strong with the ball and in run-after-catch situations," Brooks said in his analysis, posted to Greathouse's 247Sports profile. "Encouraging hands-catching ability. Knows how to find open space. Overwhelms smaller defenders in contested situations. High red-zone ceiling. Can improve fluidity and top-end speed. Could be a 'tweener without true position fit, but seems early on like a very high-floor player with bright future ahead at the college level."
