Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has initiated the construction of a new parking facility, known as the Yellow Garage. The project is expected to be fully completed by 2027 and will offer approximately 7,000 parking spaces. The facility aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency with intelligent parking systems and automatic toll gates.

Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, "I'm excited to celebrate the progress being made on our work to expand and improve our airport.” He added that the garage will provide a state-of-the-art parking solution for travelers.

AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi emphasized the significance of this development in AUS's long-term vision. “This new garage is a key investment in delivering a smooth and efficient experience for our passengers,” she said. The Yellow Garage is also part of plans for redeveloping the Barbara Jordan Terminal’s Arrival & Departure Hall.

The existing Red Garage will be removed once the Yellow Garage opens, which could be as early as late 2026. This removal is necessary for expanding the Barbara Jordan Terminal, with an updated Arrivals and Departures Hall anticipated by 2030.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson highlighted recent progress at AUS, noting projects like the West Infill Expansion and Midfield Taxiways. "Today, we’re celebrating another milestone with the groundbreaking of the Yellow Garage," he remarked.

Mayor Pro Tem Vanessa Fuentes underscored Austin's growth and its impact on airport infrastructure needs. “Investing in projects like this new parking garage ensures AUS remains safe, accessible, and ready to serve everyone,” she stated.

The Austin City Council has allocated $15 million for design and $250 million for construction of this self-funded project through airport revenues and future bonds. It does not rely on local taxes or private financing.

Key features of the Yellow Garage include seven floors upon completion, additional lanes on Presidential Boulevard, dedicated EV charging stations, an enclosed pedestrian bridge connecting garages, and open space detection systems for efficient navigation.

Economy Lot B closed earlier this month to facilitate construction. The Yellow Garage will be built in phases to deliver nearly half of its capacity by 2026 without disrupting ongoing expansion projects.

Austin Commercial is leading construction efforts alongside designer PGAL. Local contractors are also involved in supporting this initiative which contributes economically to Austin.
