Several changes to CapMetro services will take effect on January 14, 2024. These adjustments are part of the agency's triannual efforts to enhance customer experience and improve service efficiency.

A new Pickup Zone is being introduced for the Dove Springs neighborhood. This initiative aims to connect Southeast Austin residents with other CapMetro services and key destinations within the zone. Starting January 14, customers can request rides through the Pickup App available on Apple and Google stores or by phone at 512-369-6200 if they cannot use the app.

The service change will maintain Routes 18, 217, and 335 at their current frequency of every 30 minutes, a schedule that has been in place since 2020. There will be no changes to these routes.

Express Routes 981, 987, and E-bus Routes, which have been suspended since 2020, will be officially removed as part of this update. A complete list of service changes is available on CapMetro's dedicated webpage.

Ahead of these changes, CapMetro Rail service will be temporarily suspended starting January 12 to allow for improvements on the Red Line and continued construction at McKalla Station. The Red Line is expected to reopen on January 16 after Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

During this suspension on January 12 and 13, shuttle services via CapMetro buses will operate from Leander, Lakeline, and Howard rail stations to Downtown Station. Bus services from all other rail stations to downtown will also be provided but not directly to Downtown Station.
