As the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available to more individuals, CapMetro is offering free rides for those with vaccination appointments within its service area. This initiative aims to facilitate access to vaccination sites by providing complimentary transportation on all CapMetro services.
Dottie Watkins, Chief Operating/Customer Officer at CapMetro, stated, "Ensuring community members can safely reach their COVID-19 vaccination appointments is part of CapMetro’s dedication to protect the health and safety of our Central Texas community." She emphasized that this service continues CapMetro's commitment to essential services during the pandemic.
The free rides are available on MetroRail, MetroBus, MetroRapid, MetroExpress, Pickup, MetroAccess, MetroBike, and UT Shuttles. Customers using Pickup should apply the code METROVAX for two free roundtrips necessary for both vaccine doses.
Passengers must present proof of their vaccine appointment when boarding. It is important to note that CapMetro does not administer vaccines or schedule appointments.
CapMetro will maintain its COVID-19 safety protocols during these trips. Passengers are required to wear facial coverings on board. The vehicles undergo daily cleaning with disinfectants and an electrostatic product ensures sanitized surfaces.
