The City of Austin will commence on-demand collection of bulk, brush and household hazardous waste next year. | City of Austin

Starting in January 2025, residents of Austin will experience a change in the collection of bulk, brush, and household hazardous waste. The city will transition from predetermined biannual schedules to an on-demand service.

According to an October 28 press release attributed to the city, Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) will also launch on-demand household hazardous waste (HHW) collection at the same time. Service addresses will be able to schedule up to three collections per calendar year, with collections resetting at the start of each new year.

ARR will notify customers via mail and through the Austin Recycles app when they can begin scheduling appointments for these collections. Appointments can be made as soon as availability is confirmed, either through the Austin Recycles app, by visiting AustinTexas.gov/MySchedule, or by calling Austin 3-1-1 (512-974-2000).

The release states that the scheduling system will list which items or materials can be collected, and customers will identify what they plan to set out. Following the setup of an appointment, customers will receive an email confirmation along with a follow-up email prior to their appointment as a reminder to set out items. Collections will occur on the scheduled day.
