The Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is organizing a trip to Taylor, Texas, to support LGBTQ+ owned and allied businesses. Scheduled for November 9, 2024, the event aims to celebrate the Chamber's Small Town Big Pride members.
Participants will gather at The Pub in Austin before departing by bus at 2:45 p.m. They will have the opportunity to explore Chamber member businesses in Taylor and return around 8 p.m. The initiative highlights the new Small Town Big Pride memberships introduced by the Chamber in 2023.
A statement from Taylor Pride emphasized the significance of growth and diversity in Taylor: "The City of Taylor is on the cusp of major expansion, so it's important to have a growth mindset. Growth equals more diversity in residence, businesses, and cultures. It is critical that we create a sense of belonging, welcome diverse perspectives, and create equal opportunities. An event like Small Town, Big Pride spotlights many of the unique businesses that are safe & welcoming spaces, that make Taylor so special. Taylor Pride is excited to welcome the Austin LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce to Taylor, TX!"
The day-long event will include a map of participating businesses and a Rainbow Ribbon Cutting ceremony. Alyse Mervosh, owner of Curio Mrvosa Books and More, expressed enthusiasm about showcasing Taylor's character: “We are delighted to be part of the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and to welcome folks to our vibrant, growing downtown... Small Town Big Pride is such a fun way for us to show off our town’s unique character while allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the friendliness found here.”
Tickets for the bus ride are available at $10 for members and $20 for non-members. There is also an option for free RSVP for those meeting directly in Taylor. Registration can be completed at https://STBP.givesmart.com.
