The SIMS Foundation has announced a temporary pause in most of its services for a 90-day period, from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. This decision aims to allow the organization to restructure and develop a sustainable service model for the future.
Over the past two decades, HAAM has collaborated with the SIMS Foundation as a partner organization to enhance mental health and wellness within the music community. "During this time of change, we are working to keep our community informed and connected to the care they need," said a representative from HAAM. They emphasized their commitment to supporting SIMS as it undergoes significant changes.
For musicians currently receiving weekly sessions from SIMS, only one funded session per month will be available during this transition period. Musicians can choose to self-pay at discounted rates with their existing providers. Both organizations encourage those unable to self-pay or secure grant funding for therapy services to transition their care to in-network providers if insured. Uninsured musicians are advised to contact HAAM for comprehensive healthcare coverage.
SIMS and HAAM will also assist musicians in applying for grant funds through organizations like Musicares, Music Health Alliance, Sweet Relief, and Sofaburn. These grants can help cover costs related to therapy, psychiatry, medication, and other recovery resources.
To aid musicians during Open Enrollment this year, SIMS is referring them to HAAM for comprehensive healthcare coverage guidance. Musicians interested in joining HAAM can email support@myhaam.org or call 512-541-4226 for more information.
Both organizations stress the importance of staying informed about updates via the SIMS Foundation's website and checking out HAAM’s Mental Health Resources. Musicians residing in Travis County and surrounding areas who wish to join HAAM can request an application at myhaam.org/join-haam.
HAAM remains dedicated to supporting Austin's musicians by assisting with healthcare navigation and connecting them with insurance options during this service pause at SIMS. They encourage musicians to take advantage of HAAM’s free membership benefits that include access to affordable medical services.
"Both SIMS and HAAM are focusing on serving musicians as seamlessly as possible through this transition," stated representatives from both organizations. They assure ongoing support for SIMS Foundation's mission while being available for assistance.
