Tapestry Dance Company will host the 25th Annual Soul 2 Sole International Tap Festival from June 18-22, 2025. The festival is a globally recognized event that celebrates rhythm, artistry, and community by bringing together renowned tap dancers for a week of learning and performances.
On Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m., the Participant’s Showcase & Friends! will feature choreography and improvisation with selected participant works alongside performances by guest artists and the Soul 2 Sole Jazz Trio. The following night, Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m., Just Friends! will present solos and spontaneous play with this year's guest performers.
“Each night at the Long Center will be an unforgettable celebration of movement, music and artistic expression,” said Acia Gray. “It’s a rare chance for the public to experience the brilliance of world-renowned tap artists alongside emerging talent.”
This year’s festival provides students with opportunities to explore tap dance as an art form under the guidance of leaders like Dianne Walker, Tony Waag, Acia Gray, Brinae Ali, Jeremy Arnold, Nicholas Van Young, Karissa Royster, and Siobhan Alexis. Participants can engage in technique classes and improvisational sessions.
Soul 2 Sole stands as one of the longest-running tap dance festivals today. Founded in 1992 as The Austin Tap Jam, it has survived financial challenges faced by similar festivals in cities like New York and Los Angeles.
“Throughout its rich history...,” said Acia Gray. “Soul 2 Sole continues to honor this legacy.”
The festival's highlight includes two premiere concerts open to the public at the Long Center.
Tapestry Dance is a professional non-profit organization founded in 1989 by Acia Gray and Deirdre Strand. It offers diverse programs including full-length concerts and outreach initiatives like Rhythm, Dance, Music & You!, serving children since 1990.
The event is independently organized apart from the Long Center's views or values. The Long Center ensures a safe environment for all attendees without tolerating any misconduct.
