Superintendent Matias Segura recently visited Palm Elementary School to present the Golden Rave Award to Jessica Gomez, a dyslexia interventionist, in recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month. Gomez has been a dedicated member of Austin ISD for 21 years, focusing on providing specialized instruction and resources to help students succeed.
Gomez's efforts extend beyond her teaching duties as she fosters family engagement, creating a supportive and collaborative environment that empowers students to overcome challenges and reach their potential. Her dedication earned her the title of Campus Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024.
Palm Elementary School Principal Rhoda Coleman praised Gomez's commitment, stating: "For 21 years, Ms. Gomez has been the kind of teacher every student with dyslexia needs—patient, determined, and sure that every kid can succeed. She does more than just teach; she boosts confidence and celebrates progress, never giving up on any student."
The award presentation also took place in Spanish to honor Dyslexia Awareness Month. Superintendent Segura acknowledged Gomez's contributions by presenting her with the "Rave de Oro" award during his visit to Palm Elementary School.
Gomez's long-standing service within Austin ISD highlights her exceptional dedication to helping students with dyslexia thrive academically and personally.
