Austin police seek public's help in hit-and-run case involving elderly victim

The Austin Police Department (APD) Highway Enforcement Investigations unit is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident. The event took place on Sunday, September 1, 2024, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the 12100 block of N IH 35 SVRD SB.

According to APD, a 77-year-old victim was attempting to cross the road after his vehicle experienced two flat tires. While crossing to seek help, the victim was struck by a passing vehicle. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the suspect vehicle did not stop to call emergency services.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact APD’s Highway Enforcement Investigations Unit at 512-974-5789. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
