Elon Musk, owner of Austin-based social media company Twitter, recently said that words "cis" and "cisgender" are now "considered slurs" on the social media platform.

"Repeated, targeted harassment against any account will cause the harassing accounts to receive, at minimum, temporary suspensions," Musk wrote in a June 20 Twitter post. "The words 'cis' or 'cisgender' are considered slurs on this platform."

"Cisgender" is a term created by those who believe in "gender identity" to describe men or women.

Musk’s tweet drew 22.3 million views and 224,000+ likes in the succeeding twenty hours.

The tweet was a response to a Twitter user, James Esses, who tweeted a complaint, “Yesterday, after posting a Tweet saying that I reject the word ‘cis’ and don’t wish to be called it, I receive a slew of messages from trans activists calling me ‘cissy’ and telling me that I am ‘cis’ ‘whether or not I like it.’ Just imagine if the roles were reversed."

Esses describes himself on Twitter as a “Commentator and Co-founder of Thoughtful Therapists. Focusing on the impact of ideology on society and the safeguarding of children” He publishes “TRANSparency, which he describes at his website as “a publication by James Esses dedicated to providing open and honest reflections on the issue of our time - the impact of gender ideology on society.”
