Austin-based Greater Texas Credit Union (GTCU) has entered into a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Texas State University in San Marcos, according to a press release issued by the financial institution.

The agreement mints GTCU an official sponsor of the Bobcats sports teams, the release said.

Texas State Sports Properties general manager Bucky Lamb helped forged the partnership.

“We are thrilled to partner with Greater Texas Credit Union as an official sponsor and a part of the Bobcat family. Greater Texas is already a loyal supporter of Texas State University,” Lamb said in the release. “We are excited the credit union continues to choose Texas State as a strategic partner as they expand their brand in San Marcos and beyond.”

Fielding varsity teams in football, baseball, basketball, soccer, track and field, tennis, softball, volleyball and golf, Texas State is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I school and a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

Per the release, the credit union holds usage rights to the university’s logo and likeness of its mascot, Boko the Bobcat. 

It’ll also play a huge role in promoting and marketing Bobcats athletics, with plans to be present at select sponsored games. 

The agreement, which is expected to last through 2027, additionally covers stadium and field signage, game time video and program announcements and digital exposure on schoolwide screens.

Greater Texas’ president and chief executive officer (CEO) Howard Baker said the agreement takes his company’s support of Texas State “to the next level.”

“We already support the university through an endowment and financial support of athletics and on-campus activities,” Baker, an alum himself, said, according to the release. “We look forward to new opportunities to connect with the Bobcat community with much greater frequency to improve members’ financial well-being, providing the best banking experiences and supporting the growth and influence of Texas State University.”
