A culinary import from Portland, Oregon is looking to bank on its popularity in Austin, according to Austin ABC affiliate KVUE.
KVUE reported that Voodoo Doughnut has announced plans to open a second location at 5408 Burnet Rd. on the city’s north side.
Voodoo Doughnut’s first Austin shop is at 212 E. 6th St.
The Pacific Northwest-based company is famous for its voodoo doll look-alike doughnuts and bacon maple bars, KVUE reported.
Counting the new Burnet Road location, Voodoo Doughnut has 18 franchises nationwide.
“Opening a second location to serve a community that has embraced the Voodoo brand throughout the years is really what it’s all about for us," the eatery’s chief executive officer (CEO), Chris Schultz, said, per the station.
KVUE reported that the company hasn’t specified when the newest Voodoo Doughnut franchise in Austin will open but will announce the grand opening date at a later date.
Eater Austin reported that the shop will occupy a space that formerly housed a Lucy’s Fried Chicken.
It’ll have a workforce of 75, according to KVUE.
The Voodoo Doughnut website said that the business was founded in 2000 by Portlanders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon.
The entrepreneurs wanted to pursue something that melded quality hospitality with their do-it-yourself (DIY) brand of show business, the website said.
Per the company, Schultz joined the team as its leader in 2017.
