NuSkool Snacks, an Austin-based company that specializes in keto-friendly, low-sugar snack bars, has named former National Football League (NFL) quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow as its chief mission officer, per a report from Austin ABC affiliate KVUE.
The business's CEO Joe Christensen said in a press release that the 34-year-old Tebow was the right candidate for the position, KVUE reported.
"Tim's athletic excellence and unwavering commitment and advocacy for a low-sugar lifestyle aligns perfectly with our low-sugar mission, and we are honored to have him join our fast-growing team as an investor and chief mission officer," Christensen said. "With his support, our delicious, protein-packed, on-the-go snacks will become increasingly more available to health-conscious consumers."
The station reported that increased levels of diabetes, obesity and heart disease prompted Christensen to start the company, which offers plant-based Krunch Bars consisting of seven grams of fiber, 10 grams of protein and no added sugar in addition to collagen dessert bars.
Tebow holds equity in NuSkool, but the amount is unspecified, per KVUE.
The Philippines-born ex-professional athlete who starred at the University of Florida from 2006 to 2009 said the snacks made a good first impression on him, the report said.
"I immediately fell in love with NuSkool Snacks the moment I tasted them," Tebow said in the release. They are perfect for anyone who is looking to incorporate low-sugar snack options into their diet. I am excited to officially join Joe and the NuSkool Snacks team and work side by side with them to bring healthy and clean eating options to everyone."
After leading Florida to two national championships, Tebow became a first-round selection of the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft.
He and the Broncos went to the playoffs in his second season where they eliminated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round.
The game on Jan. 8, 2011, was notable for how Tebow finished the day with a career-high 316 passing yards since he's known for his deep Christian faith.
According to Pro Football Reference, Tebow played three seasons in the NFL, throwing for 2,422 yards and 17 touchdowns as a member of the Broncos and the New York Jets.
