The University of Texas Longhorns men's basketball team received a big boost on Wednesday (April 20) when its leading scorer announced his return for next season on Twitter.
"I'm coming back," forward Timmy Allen tweeted. "My last chase for championships in college, with my brothers. This is how my story is supposed to go. It’s already written."
According to Austin NBC affiliate KXAN, Allen started every game last season for then-first-year head coach Chris Beard, averaging 12.1 per contest and 6.4 rebounds per game.
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Mesa, Arizona native helped guide UT to the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament Round of 32.
KXAN reported that Allen, who came to Austin after the university hired Beard, took home several individual honors in his first year in Austin.
He landed on the All-Big 12 Second Team and the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team, per the station.
A physical culture & sports, sociology/social work track major at UT, Allen previously played three seasons at the University of Utah, his profile on the program's website said.
According to KXAN, Allen scored in double figures 22 times in the 2021-2022 campaign, which essentially distinguished the senior as the Longhorns' scoring leader.
The Longhorns compiled a 22-12 overall record, which included a 10-8 conference mark.
They earned their second consecutive March Madness appearance.
