Austin-based jewelry company Kendra Scott has designated the day after Mother's Day a corporate holiday, a press release said.
According to the release, May 9 will be the first company-wide Mother's Day observance in which employees have the paid day off.
Namesake founder and executive chairwoman Kendra Scott said her business highly prioritizes families.
“Family comes first at Kendra Scott," Scott, who established the business in the spare bedroom of her home, said in the release. "This Mother’s Day, I wanted to offer a day for our employees to take the time to celebrate themselves and their families. Starting this year, we declare that Mother’s Day is an annual Kendra Scott holiday, giving time for recognition and celebration."
The release said that the Kendra Scott corporate headquarters will be closed and retail, customer service and distribution center employees will earn time and a half pay in accordance to the company's corporate holiday policy.
According to the release, the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted 40% of mothers to add more than three hours of daily caregiving to their schedules.
The new Mother's Day corporate holiday follows last year's launch of the Kendra Scott Mother’s Day Personal Time Off Fund, which gave $2,000 each to 50 mothers across the U.S., the release said.
On the company's website, Scott, a mother of three, said she started the business when her eldest child was three months old.
"Family has always come first here, and it always will," she said on the website.
The release said that Kendra Scott has a workforce of more than 2,000 employees and over 115 standalone stores across the U.S.
