Major League Soccer has suspended midfielder Cecilio Domínguez indefinitely, Austin FC said, according to a club-issued press release.
"After receiving preliminary information gathered by Austin FC, Major League Soccer has suspended Austin FC player Cecilio Domínguez pending an MLS investigation into possible off-field misconduct," team officials said in the release. "Mr. Domínguez will be prohibited from engaging in team activities during the pendency of the investigation. MLS will remain in close communication with Austin FC and the MLS Players Association throughout the process."
According to Austin NBC affiliate KXAN, the 27-year-old Paraguayan notched two goals in his second year with MLS's newest franchise.
In Verde's inaugural season in 2021, Domínguez was the club's co-leader in goals scored with seven, the station reported.
Austin FC's 1-0 victory over Minnesota United FC on Sunday (April 10) was the team's first game since Domínguez's suspension.
Austin ABC affiliate KVUE reported that Domínguez became a permanent resident of the U.S. before his suspension.
The move would've kept the former Paraguay national team member from holding an international spot on Austin FC's roster in 2023, according to the station.
Austin FOX affiliate KTBC reported that Domínguez played a total of 33 matches for Verde.
Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff didn't elaborate on Domínguez's punishment following Sunday's win, according to KVUE.
"For us, it's not even something that we discuss," Wolff said, the station reported.
Verde will head to Audi Field in the nation's capital for a Saturday (April 16) match against D.C. United.
