Texas exported $375.3 billion in exports in 2021, which is a greater level of exports than California, New York and Louisiana combined, according to recent data from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Texas was the top exporter of goods to international markets last year for the 20th year in a row, the Texas Economic Development Corp. reported. Last year’s totals exceeded Texas’ exports in both 2019 and 2020, the Texas governor’s office said.

In December alone, Texas recorded exports of both manufactured and non-manufactured goods valued at $35.5 billion, according to the BEA data.

Exports are responsible for sustaining nearly one million jobs in the Lone Star State, according to the governor’s office.

The reasons behind Texas’ strong performance with exports include its closeness to trade routes via air, sea and land, Gov. Greg Abbott said. Other state policies helping to support the export economy include reasonable regulations and low taxes, the BEA said.
